Problems with Favorites in Internet Explorer

The past couple of days I have to click several times on the star icon to
access My Favorites in Internet Explorer before the window will remain open.
My wife has experienced the same problem on her account. Additionally, once
the Favorites window remains open, a noticeable change in speed in opening a
favorite link has been noticed.

System Restore does not resolve the problem.

The problem only exists on my Gateway PC with XP. My Toshiba laptop with
Vista has not experienced this problem.

Anyone have any suggestions?
