Default Media Streaming

I've an annoyance where a Win7 Pro pc seems to be "advertising" a Media
Streaming Device even though Media Streaming on the pc is turned off and
the Media Streaming Service has been Stopped and Disabled using Services
management.

How do I stop that icon showing when one browses the network. My other
Win7 Home doesn't have it displayed on other pcs (reversed scenario as
an example).

SSDP ?

Windows Media Player can function as a streaming server.
Maybe have a look at the preferences on the machine in
question. I can't remember now, how SSDP gets switched on.
You could check Services. On an OS like WinXP, I think
that's an optional extra package to install. Whereas
in a later OS, there might be a long networking preferences panel
with one item related to that.

AFAIK, for the most part, the SSDP is used just to get the
icon to show up. It's not clear it is absolutely necessary,
to get service.

Looks like stopping the service and leaving it disabled seems to have
also removed the icon on the one Win7 pc that was showing it in Network
Neighbourhood. Kinda funny the other Win7 pc running same Home Pre
didn't show the icon yet best I know they're both setup the same seeing
as one's almost identical image to the other (it is "my" old pc).
