System File Checker SP2 with XP SP1 CD Prompt
Since Windows XP RC1 is in *public* beta,
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...p2preview.mspx I figure it's fine to pose this question which is really focused on how SFC functions here. If you are running a Beta build of XP SP2, and you run System File Checker, and are prompted to install the XP CD-ROM and it is the original XP SP1 CD, will this substitute any SP1 files, or after completionwill the OS still function with the proper SP2 files? I could see this becoming any issue when SP2 is released in a month or so also. I have done this, and the version is still the appropriate Beta version, but I wondered considering SFC might have to go to Dllcache on the CD to find intact files to replace if it can't do it from the DLLcache folder already on the hard drive. System File Checker SP2 with XP SP1 CD Prompt
With Service Pack 1, it looks at C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles and gets
the necessary files from there instead of the Windows CD. I imagine SP2 does it the same way. However you should take this and all other SP2 questions to the SP2 newsgroups referenced on this link: http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/xpsp2.htm -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/ "Chad Harris" wrote in message ... System File Checker SP2 with XP SP1 CD Prompt
I'll take your suggestion. I'm still a little puzzled about how that gets
handled before there is an actual XP SP2 CD. I can understand it would work OK once they release a final one. I appreciate your site, Jupiter. I've used it before. I'll try to pitch it to Beta groups. Chad Harris ___________________________ "Jupiter Jones [MVP]" wrote in message ...
