Programs and Folders take a while to open up after boot-up

Hello. After I start my computer, when I try to run a program, such as IE or my Email, or open up a folder such as My Documents, My computer, Control Panel, there is quite a delay before the program/folder opens up. It takes about 3-5 seconds. But after I open it then close it, then open it again, the delay is gone. Is there anyway to eliminate this slow-down? Thanks. Btw, my computer is running on an Athlon XP2000+, 512 MB and a 40 GB HD. Most likely it is the fact that you just started up the computer. The reason that the first lauch is slow is because the program must be loaded from the hard disk, and hard disks aren't as fast as memory (RAM), which is where the program gets loaded to on first lauch. Therefore the first launch is slow, but after that they are faster because now the program is in RAM. -- The full impact of parenthood doesn't hit you until you multiply the number of your kids by 32 teeth. |

Okay, thanks. But sometimes, even after my computer is on it still takes 5 seconds to load...but this is after I played a games or used memory extensive programs...could that be why it takes a while again? Also...Is it better to assign Memory Usage for [Programs] or for [System Cache]? Thanks. |
