See Gene Bloch's comment, and let me add that it has nothing to do
with what newsreader you use. If you can't find it, it's because you
are doing something wrong.

I went to Tools|Newsgroup then 'Update Directory'. It's always worked
before.

You want to update (also called "refresh") your *newsgroup list*. Unless
Agent uses unusual terminology, "Update Directory" is not what you want.

In Agent, the button is actually labelled "Update Directory".

You get to it via the Tools menu, and choose "Newsgroup Directory".

Maybe not the best choice of words, but that's what they call it.

Rod.

It's there, too. You might have to refresh your group list, but E-S is
carrying it.

I have Agent8, and I can't find it!

Have you followed the advice to refresh your group list?

I should add - its presence depends on your news service provider, not
your newsreader...

I'll have to contact the latter; though in the past they've been
quite good.

That doesn't make sense to me...What do you want to contact the Agent
people about?

The Agent people (Forte) also provide a news service, so if that's
what he's using, they would be the people to speak to.

I didn't know that about Forte, but from PJ's headers,

NNTP-Posting-Host: 88c1b0fa.news.astraweb.com

Though having said that, the Forte news service actually does include
alt.comp.os.windows-10, so if anyone is using it and can't see that
group, it'll be for the same reason I couldn't. So many things update
themselves automatically these days that I'd simply forgotten that
newsgroup lists don't.

Yeah, me too sometimes.

Thanks, that absolves Peter Jason - but not me for calling him on it :-)

news.astraweb.com appear to carry 38,579 newsgroups.

alt.comp.os.windows-10 is NOT one of them.

I can't say I like the newest Windows 10 build. That large search box
on the taskbar ugh! I notice when you remove items from the Start menu
the menu does not resize like before. I don't use the apps so I
removed them. Now the Start opens a large window with nothing in it.
It used to resize so that the window would be smaller when apps were
removed. I hope they don't have that stupid search bar in the final
release. I have Siri on my ipad and I never use it. I don't see
Cortana being any more usefull than Siri.

You can remove the search box in the Taskbar right-click and uncheck the option.
Cortana is only available in the US version at the moment but I doubt I'll use it anyway.

You can use Cortana outside of the US.

Maybe you can but I can't.

Have you changed in the settings of your system your country or region
to United States, then changed your language to English (United States)?

No, I don't want to. I am in the UK. I want the UK version with UK English.

OK, then I'd recommend that Peter try an alternative provider.

News.individual.net works for me but it isn't free (but only 10
Euros/year). Maybe someone can recommend a nice alternative for PJ.

I feel your pain. I have about 2000 movies on DVD-R disks, and the
blanks are becoming harder to buy. I store mine in a library-card
file cabinet and each platter has the movie title & summary printed on
it.

Similarly, when I despatch CD-R disks with a year's worth of photos to
all & sundry relatives, with printed folder trees on the surface, I
get winges about the lack of optical drives on iGadgets and tablet
computers! It's all too much.

That's an excellent suggestion. Or he could try contacting Astraweb
and requesting that they add the newsgroup to their server.

There is a supplier of JVC (Taiyo Yuden) C/DVDs who (I believe) lives
in Toukley on the Central Coast of NSW. He sells them on spindles pf
100 or in bulk (6x spindles). For printing purposes, he offers stock
for thermal printers or for inkjet printers.

I you have heard of Taiyo Yuden, you are probably aware of their very
high quality. However, they were bought by JVC a few years ago and I
for one had trouble finding their C/DVDs until recently (possibly
because I used to buy my PC items at the markets, rather than in
shops). I have recently bought CDs from him.

His web site is www.nortsandones.com.au

Agent 8 is a newsreader. No newsreader in the world is going to be able to
subscribe to a newsgroup that isn't carried by your provider. If your
provider doesn't carry a specific group, your two options are to request
that they start carrying it and be patient, or look elsewhere for a provider
that carries that group. Note that you're not limited to a single provider.
You can have accounts at multiple providers, pulling some groups from one
and other groups from another. Your newsreader should make it all seamless.
