How do I stop Messenger 4.7 from automatically signing me out?
Can I extend the period of time before the program automatically signs me
out? I am frustrated by conversations being stopped because of this problem. The window of time that I am considered logged in without any activity seems to be about 15 minutes. I would like to extend this but can't figure how to do it. Thanks for any assistance. |

How do I stop Messenger 4.7 from automatically signing me out?
Greetings Andrea,
The first thing to do is to try using Windows Live Messenger 8.x instead. Windows Messenger 4.x is essentially the original code and protocol from 2001 in XP. One of the many things fixed over the years was the ability to stay connected in a variety of different networking environments (although it's still not 100% fixed in every situation). You can grab Windows Live Messenger to try he http://get.live.com/messenger/overview The only real thing you can check if you wish to continue to use 4.7 is that you have the latest firmware for your router (assuming you're using one) or uninstall any software third-party firewall you might have installed (to determine if it's the problem). -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2007 Jonathan Kay.
