Default Messenger destroyed my internet connection

After I installed the newest windows messenger within a day I found that my
computer wouldn't connect to the internet. I've messed with my network
connections somewhat and it's like it no longer has the capability to see a
connection. I'm not very good at this kind of thing so any help would be
very appreciated.

p.s. I use cable internet. Also, I have already deleted windows messenger
and tried system restore to an earlier point but those didn't work.
