Media Player 10 won't play DVD's
I've searched but haven't found a fix so far.
Problem: Media Player 10 won't play DVD's. Inserting DVD triggers a prompt to play. Media Player shows chapter and titles but won’t play. No error messages. Played OK prior to fresh install of XP MCE on new 500GB drive. I used the MS video decoder checkup utility to set the NVIDIA decoder as "Preferred". The second decoder (Sonic Symphony) is flagged as not compatible. I'm not sure how to remove this since I don't see it listed in the "add/remove programs" tool. System Info: XP version 5.1 (build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.080814-1236 : SP3) WMP version 10.00.00.3802 Updated video driver via Microsoft Update link. MS Decoder Checker shows: NVIDIA video decoder, nvviddec.ax, vs. 4.0.44.0. MP10 compatible (green checkmark), MCE compatible (green checkmark), Preferred decoder (green checkmark). Sonic MPEG video decoder (Symphony), sonicmpegvideos.dll, vs. 5.0.0.1. MP10 compatible (red x). This decoder is not compatible with the synchronization feature of WMP10. Thank you for your time. John ============================ Easy solution would be to download and install the free VLC media player. VLC Media Player http://www.videolan.org/ For your current dilemma...it's probably a video driver issue...one way to test it would be to reduce your Graphics Hardware Acceleration as per the instructions in the following article. (272193) PI: How to Troubleshoot Graphics Issues http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=272193 (scroll down to: Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP) If an improvement is realized...go to... the support site of your video adapter's manufacturer and search for Windows XP Compatible drivers. If you don't know the make and model of your video adapter...check the documentation that came with the computer. Also you could try these steps... Go to...Start / Run...type... msinfo32 ...press enter. On the System Information screen...choose... Components / Display... You should find the make and model of your display adapter as well as the driver version. If the driver on the support website is more current than the one you are running... download it and install it. Also you should find and follow the installation instructions at the support site. Once the driver is updated/reinstalled...return your acceleration to Full. -- John Inzer MS-MVP Digital Media Experience Notice This is not tech support I am a volunteer Solutions that work for me may not work for you Proceed at your own risk |
