Default New Microsoft Edge - How to set Google as homepage

Am following Microsoft's instructions as to how to set Google as my
homepage, which has the correct result.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...wser-home-page

However, having opened that first window, on rightclicking the Edge icon
in Taskbar to open a second window, the homepage in that window reverts
to the Microsoft Edge homepage. How do I get the homepage to always be
Google?

Open Edge go to Google Copy the url.
In settings paste in "use url" on the end of that box, there is a
little "disk" image click on it.
Just worked for me !

Hmm, it's not for me. Where specifically in Settings are you doing
this? Thanks.

Click on the ... and scroll down to Settings and click on it.
Find Open Microsoft Edge with and choose a specific page or pages)
from the dropdown menu.
Then you can paste the google url you copied earlier click on the "disk"
image at the right.
Lower down the menu you can do the same for Set your Homepage

Click on the three dots in the top right-hand corner. Scroll down to
settings and select. OPens in a tab.
Select On startup, chose Open a specific page or pages and click on
Add a new page or Use all open tabs as you wish.

Again, for me this works fine and *does* open with the Google homepage
when I *first* launch the browser. It's when I open a second browser
window by right-clicking on the Edge icon in the taskbar and left
clicking on Microsoft Edge that I always get the Edge homepage rather
than the Google homepage. I use exactly the same method as I used to
use in Google Chrome to open a second browser window, and cannot get my
head round why each new browser window I open opens with the Edge
homepage. Help!

How about this one ?

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...-chromium.html

edge://flags/#focus-mode

Disabled

And have a look in Task Manager, after that pig has processed a few
tabs and such. There will be a *ton* of processes in there, which implies
that every tab or New Page that opens is a separate process. And this
gives rise to the "what do we do when we first start" behavior. The
"first start" behavior is getting triggered way too much.

That's why I selected that one as a possibility. No guarantees though,
because who knows how many other flags interact with it. Part of flag
design, is laying down flags that don't do stuff :-/ They teach that
in UI school (the "elevator door close button" that isn't wired up).

HTH,

For me that *does* work on first opening chredge, but doesn't work when
right clicking "new window" in task bar once it is already running, that
gives me a bing start page instead.

This is Microsoft "pretending" to have turned over a new leaf.

It's like inviting a dog over to the house that has bitten
children in the past, and being surprised when it bites
some children. It's in the genes.

chredge seems more determined than edge was to make it awkward to use
anything else as your pdf reader ... if you enable external pdf reader
in settings, it refuses to use it, and makes you separately save and
launch pdf documents.
