WinXP SP2 Beta Version 2055
I don't get it.
Carey is saying to use a "third party" non-Microsoft program to do complete backup's. This in no way supports you theory of "His answer will always be in favor of MS whether or not it is correct." "Bob S." wrote in message ... Yeah, I will and post my name to it, This the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard anyone make, especially a MVP or someone that says they are. Hi, Support is not offered with beta products. It hasn't been released and
is not complete. It is expected that testers run into problems with it. "cowboy" wrote in message ... I would just like some help with my problem, didn't know I was getting into someone's pocket by testing SP2 MR. Frisch. |

Hi, Support and help is only offered if you are a valid beta testers. If
you are, log into Microsoft Beta and you will be pointed to the correct newsgroups. If you are a valid MSDN subscriber, log into your account and follow the links to the MSDN newsgroups. The MSDN groups are for software developers. Beta's of Service Packs are not meant to be used by "everyday people" and you are now finding out why. The product is not finished and not ready for release. Therefore only Microsoft employees and people in the beta program and possibly help you troubleshoot it. You will only be able to access the groups if you have valid accounts. If not, you may wait until the final version of Windows XP Service Pack 2 is released sometime this year, most likely mid year. No official release date has been set. "cowboy" wrote in message ... Can you please point me to the right Newsgroup or Forum. |

Look guys, I didn't come in here to start any arguments. All I asked for was some help with a small problem. If you can't answer my question, could you please point me in the right direction to get some help. I'm sure someone here is better aquainted with
these these news groups then I am. I am a moderator in a Forum and frequent two others, I would never treat you this way if you came to one of my forums. I didn't steal WinXP SP2 Version 2055. It was a free download with no strings attached, except maybe a few bugs, and thats why I am here. When someone ask for help, you are supposed to try and help them to the best of your ability. Giving them a smart ass answer is not being of any help. Believe me if you and me was face to face you wouldn't be answering m e that way. |

I understand that it didn't come with support. What I figured is that I might just run into someone that has already dealt with the problem and might have a solution. That is what the Beta Versions is all about.

WinXP SP2 Beta Version 2055
As I recall, the OP wanted to backup an "image" of his C: drive
to a D: drive. Are you suggesting XP's native backup utility can perform such a task? Not at all! A third-party "imaging" program, such as Symantec's Ghost, would be required. Here is the OP question: "I have 2 HDD on my system, C:\ is 20G and D:\ is 40G, I | tried to run NTbackup on my system so that i can have a | copy of C drive on my D drive. But i got an error message. | | "Media name: "Backup.bkf created 12/29/2003 at 15:38" | Error returned while creating the volume shadow | copy:80042301 | Aborting Backup. | | Any ideas??" XP's backup program can perform a "System State" backup which entails backing up data which includes the registry, the COM Class Registration database and the system boot files. It cannot perform a backup of the entire Windows XP O/S. If my assertion is incorrect, I'm open to being corrected. Short answer, you cant get support. You need to wait until the final
version is released. Just because it was a "free download" doesn't means much. The beta newsgroups is where you want to be, but since you are not a valid tester you may not access them. It should work that way for beta testers, not the people who just download
from the web w/o being a valid tester. I'm sorry, but that's how it works. You need to wait until the product is finished. "cowboy" wrote in message ... I understand that it didn't come with support. Being in the infancy beta stage, beta programs will have bugs and issues
that will be resolved over time. Don't expect any beta product to perform or install flawlessly. The issues you sited with SP2 will be resolved as the product is tested and refined. There will be several beta versions developed as bugs are submitted by SP2 beta testers and Microsoft developers work to refine the code. Since you are apparently not part of the official SP2 beta testing group, you have no access to the SP2 beta newsgroups that discuss and report issues. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows XP - Shell/User Be Smart! Chris and Carey, you two must be an Item, ya both have the same answer for everything. Although your answer are pretty lame and stupid. YES I KNOW it is a Beta release and there are going to be BUGS, and yes those bugs will be Ironed out, and NO I am not a
n official Beta Tester. But I was hoping that I would run into some guys that also have it loaded and might have an answer, THAT IS WHAT A FORUM IS FOR, but I made a mistake and ran into you two Morons who like to play Moderators on an open forum. The prob lem is you are of no help to anyone, not even yourself because you can't step out of your little play ground long enough to learn anything. With that said, I found some answers to my problem on another forum that is not WinXP Beta Related, isn't that amazing. I actually found some people that knew what a forum was for. Why don't you two little pansies get married and go to work for Microsoft and get it over with. |

inform us of the actual resolution instead of criticizing? Otherwise, there is no value to your rant. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows XP - Shell/User Be Smart! There is no reason not to expect that someone who could answer your question would. So far I have installed SP2 on three different machines. Once as an upgrade and the other two were clean installs. So far I have not seen the error you are reporting so can't offer an suggestion as to what might be the cause of the problem. If I come across anything I will let you know. You might try uninstalling SP2, or rolling back to a restore point from before the install. Verify that everything is working and then try SP2 again. You might also try going to Adminstrative Tools in the Control Panel and opening services. Try manually stopping and restarting the Automatic Updates service. Good luck. -- Tom Porterfield MS-MVP Smart Display http://support.telop.org Please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup only. |
