SP1a is exactly the same as SP1 but with the MS Java Virtual Machine
removed. So if you already have SP1 installed there is no reason to
download/install SP1a. See this link for info on why Microsoft is
removing the JVM from their products -
http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/.

I am most appreciative for the info

Very best wishes

What kind of dumbass are you? Why dont you leave and go

These ****wit's get stupider with every beta M$ puts out.

It's no good you hiding. Your post has Bill Gates written all over

Uh.. at no point did the poster say they warezed the download. That no
strings attatched download could be from MSDN as a MSDN subscriber. That
would make their downloading of SP2 legitimate. Its dangerous to assume too
much.

There has been NOTHING WRONG with what anyone has said to

Said to me (as its me you are replying to). But I'm allowed to have it.

If you mean me again, as its me you are replying to, I'm an "Official
tester" (if there is such as[sic] thing).

These ****wit's get stupider with every beta M$ puts out.

I assume you mean yourself?

Hi, We had established that the OP had no MSDN subscription and was not a
valid tester. You all may continue this as long as you wish, but this is my
closing post.

The software is not yours. Do not come here to post for help or whatever
you want to call it until the software is released to the public.

-Relevance to Topics:XP SP2 is not relevant, as it has not been released to
the public.
-Confidentiality:All beta testers are always under non-disclosure
agreement's (NDA)

I can't speak for anyone else, but Chris, if *I* want to post here for help
on anything, I will. People don't need your permission to post, any more
than they need mine. But you know, despite being fairly well known for
having a sharp tongue myself, I've managed to answer people and say
substantially what you said but without causing a flame war. Have you ever
considered why that might be?

If you disagree with something then I'd suggest either ignore it, or if you
feel you must speak it is always better to be polite about it. You can catch
more flies with a drop of honey than you can with a bucket of vinegar, you
know.

And I always respect NDAs.

Advise well taken.

Side note. This all started with the MSDN discussion. Tom Porterfield
brought up the MSDN topic.

Sorry all for the way I have acted.

Hi Tom

Can you please give us an idea about how big SP2 (network) is. People on
Dial-Up like me have to arrange for it via cable downloaders. Also, does
the beta have all the proposed fixes, and is it essentially just being
"tested"? Or will more fixes be incorporated as time progresses?

Thanks!

about.

Cowboy, my apologies for the ridiculousness of this thread. You deserve
to be treated better than this, as anyone does. There is no reason not to
expect that someone who could answer your question would. So far I have
installed SP2 on three different machines. Once as an upgrade and the
other two were clean installs. So far I have not seen the error you are
reporting so can't offer an suggestion as to what might be the cause of
the problem. If I come across anything I will let you know.

You might try uninstalling SP2, or rolling back to a restore point from
before the install. Verify that everything is working and then try SP2
again.

You might also try going to Adminstrative Tools in the Control Panel and
opening services. Try manually stopping and restarting the Automatic
Updates service.

Good luck.

This is Tom's earlier reply to me. The only thing not answered is the
length of the download
.........
What improvements are being tested, and when will testing be complete?
What percentage of testers have had annoying problems
Thanks for your help

Probably not questions that can be answered. After all, all private beta
testers are under strict NDA. MS has released some information that can
be found at the following links:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en...ityinxpsp2.asp
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...n/winxpsp2.asp

SP2 is currently in early beta, so things are still subject to change as
the beta progresses.

Thanks shojo, at this time there isn't anything else I can add to the
above.

Yes - I agree. That's why there aren't really Microsoft "enthusiasts". Mr. Frisch needs to develop his people skills. I hope he is not in the employ of Microsoft but rather some kind of unpaid lackey... at least that would make me feel a bit better.

Hey Cowboy, did youexpect anything more than a moronic answer from someone who claims to speak for Microsoft? I've crashed Windows XP PRO so many times, that I started buying extra hard drives to throw in and Install a fressh copy of XP and then just downl
oad the files off of the crashed operating system. And, NEVER have I gotten ONE good piece of advice from any Microsoft official. Microsoft, I believe, uses it's best programmers in a so-called hit squad to deal with anyone who speaks up too loudly against
them. It's almost amazing how quickly my computer has started acting squirrely right after posting some less than glowing opinions about our great computer Mother. I came here for the first time, re-directed by a Microsoft Help Page(another funny oxy moron
), because I can't play MPEGS in Win Media Player anymore. After reading these posts, after you asked, first off, for some info, I don't think these pompous know-it-all's about nothing would even be willing to help with my problem. The botom line is, Micro
soft ain't perty, but she's all we got to work with at this time and space. Well, I guess my computer's gonna be crashing soon, so I better get moving on installing a new hard drive. Thanks for the support Microsoft. May you reap what you sow!

Chris and Carey, you two must be an Item, ya both have the same answer for everything. Although your answer are pretty lame and stupid. YES I KNOW it is a Beta release and there are going to be BUGS, and yes those bugs will be Ironed out, and NO I am
not an official Beta Tester. But I was hoping that I would run into some guys that also have it loaded and might have an answer, THAT IS WHAT A FORUM IS FOR, but I made a mistake and ran into you two Morons who like to play Moderators on an open forum. The
problem is you are of no help to anyone, not even yourself because you can't step out of your little play ground long enough to learn anything.
With that said, I found some answers to my problem on another forum that is not WinXP Beta Related, isn't that amazing. I actually found some people that knew what a forum was for.
Why don't you two little pansies get married and go to work for Microsoft and get it over with.

Believe it are not, I did solve my problem with the help of someone in this thread. Of course that was after taking a bunch of crap from 2 or 3 morons, or might I say, Microsoft Employee Wantabes. My thanks goes out to the 97% who know what a Newsgroup is
for. My middle finger goes out to the other 3%
