SP2 what a bunch of @#$!!!
I had an absolutely smooth install of SP2. I disabled my AV (Norton AV 2004)
and things went off just great. The only "problem" I had was Norton complaining about its status being checked by other programs. A simple check box took care of that though. Love SP2. Great job MS. |

Simply running LiveUpdate will download and install the Norton patch that
will update VMI, and then Windows Security Center will recognize the status of both Norton AV and Norton Firewall. Bobby "Jacob Koppang" Jacob wrote in message ... I have just finished reading many of the replies to this message, and I
must say: Wow! There are alot of "developers" out there having problems, and flying off the handle without being completely informed. I call them "developers" only because they are using Visual Studio (and that's the only reason). Like so many others out there, I have a pretty heavily loaded development environment (including AV running) and I installed SP2 without incident. Everything has worked wonderfully ever since and I'm fairly impressed with the update. I hope that the ones having such difficulty with the product will identify where the problems lie, and be able to remedy them quickly, but I feel that it's a bit premature to place the blame for all these problems on Microsoft's shoulders. JRB "Bassem Srouji" wrote in message .. . I had my part of problem installing SP2 everything go streight forward and my computer was up and running after installing SP2 and then I realise that my second hard drive is no longer seen by windows so I had my C drive which was ok, but my H Drive which is my second hard drive on the computer was listed in my computer but every time I try to access it it say can not find path ... I had to remove SP2 and then everything came back to normal Bassem "Steve" wrote in message ... I had a PERFECTLY normal, secure, wonderful (hah!) running system before I installed SP2 for Windows XP, which destroyed EVERYTHING!!!! I had McAfee Security Service running, which apparently conflicted with windows security, in spite of windows trying their best to make it as generic as possible. Well, after UNINSTALLING mcafee and telling the dumb, !@#$!@ windows Firewall to shutup and let port 10277 be accessible from outside the network, it still did NOT allow 10277 (just a random port -- it has no significance by the way) to be accessed from outside the network. I then switched the firewall OFF and it STILL "silently" firewalled my computer WITHOUT my concent!!!!!THEN! on top of ALL of this, INTERNET EXPLORER started misbehaving. Every time I try browsing a site, I have to refresh bloody ten times to get it to display the page. Most of the times I get the "Page cannot be displayed - check your connection" error and God knows what else. I'm tired of this.. I've uninstalled it and I am PRAYING that my computer becomes USABLE again. DO NOT INSTALL SP2 unless you know nothing about computers and all you do on your desktop is check emails and use MICROSOFT'S MSN!!! STEVE! |

If people are so worried about security, they shouldn't be using windows in the first place... Even point and click too hard for you, consider buying a type writer. |

Well, I am sure there are others that experience problems with SP2. I agree
with others that Steve came down from the hill a little strong on the other hand I did experience a weird problem in IE after installing SP2m not on all machines but still. Even if popup blocker is turned off, IE still seems to put its digital fingers on it but allowing the new window to open but then the pages seems to hang. When I press the stop button followed by the Go button the requested page comes up just fine. I haven't had a chance to research it further but if there are others that know of this problem and have a solution, please let me know. Thanks, Wayne, If you have a software problem, take a deep breath, a warm shower, a nice cup-a-coffee then just solve it! The popup blocker in SP2 is driving me crazy. Its a total pain when tring to
develop and run web apps in whideby. I can completely turn off popup blocking and when running an website in whideby's new virtual iis it just blocks all popups anyway. Does anyone have any ideas?? I think I am going to get rid of SP2. "Steve" wrote: I had a PERFECTLY normal, secure, wonderful (hah!) running system before I installed SP2 for Windows XP, which destroyed EVERYTHING!!!! SP2 what a bunch of @#$!!!
I love Zonealarm. I did all theese online open port scans and didnt miss one. all in green. i´d liked to see the zonealarm engine implemented into XP. that would fit my imagination. this Sp2 firewall is nice for non techies also, and if iam right, its asking for outbound traffic. like.. is this program allowed to call out. but the settings are much harder to find and also hard to configure. I would like some kind of option to switch tech to nontechie. like zonealarm always did. I also not think that it is a clever move to blame a software product from a company thats only focusing on doing their Firewall secure for not doing their job right. If i would give a tipp. Turn off the SP2 firewall and install zonealarm. Its really worth the money. If you think its to complex than turn sp2 firewall back on. Its jsut shareware. so try it. you always have the feeling to know whats going on, and what program is currently "using" the internet. dont see that in Sp2. And to implement an Antivirus Status window inside the SP2 without even consultate the former AV companies for getting an SP2 plugin is the funniest idea ever. Is it MS´s job to hold the program running after the update they made ? or is it the company´s job to change their product for any change MS is doing to their OS ? what comes first.. the egg ? -- Benjamin3005 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Posted via http://www.mcse.ms ------------------------------------------------------------------------ View this thread: http://www.mcse.ms/message1004056.html |

Have had computers blue screen, constant freezing of the screen, and many programs that no longer work..yet some (not many) it goes no problem. dont tell steve hes full of s**t unless youve seen his "bad install" and tell the million other people having problems with it including pc shops that they know nothing too -- moosejawco ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Posted via http://www.mcse.ms ------------------------------------------------------------------------ View this thread: http://www.mcse.ms/message1004056.html |

Is it possible the fact this URL is being redirected by NameSecure to the 'real' site part of the issue? Any ideas what may be causing this would be greatly appreciated please. Best regards, George |
