Did I back up my Android phone correctly (copied phone + cardto computer)
This is an update after a couple of weeks of testing.
I found, the hard way, that it's important to back up your APK files, but, not to use Kies3 on Windows to do that important backup. The case in point was that my "inSSIDer" freeware turned payware, so, the only free version I had was that which was stuck inside of Kies3 on Windows. Kies3 on Windows had no problem re-installing from its apk archive, but, when I tried re-installing the Kies3 on Windows inSSIDER apk native on Android, it failed. So, it's not useful if you need *both* the archival program *and* the archive. In solving that problem, I found a *much better* and simpler solution! On Android, simply install "App Backup & Restore" from "INFOLIFE LLC": https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...life.appbackup It will show you every app you've installed and every app you've already archived to an APK. It can be set to automatically create the backup APK file for you every time you install an app, or, you can create the APKs manually at will. Best of all, and unlike Kies3 on Windows, not only is no other software needed, but, you can re-install the APK without needing *any* additional software. So this is my recommended APK backup procedu 1. While setting up the phone, install App Backup & Restore 2. Set it to archive every downloaded install to an APK file 3. Every once in a while, copy those APK archives to a hard disk drive Voila! Much easier than Kies3 on Windows, and muuuuuuuch safer too! |
