Default Files and folders disappear

Following a system crash all of the files on a particular hard drive have
disappeared in Explorer. However, the folder structure remains visible.

I have been able to make the files visible using the Folders and Files
Attribute settings but each time I exit Explorer the attribute switches back
to Hidden. This occurs even if I have set the system to show hidden system
files.

I would like to set all of the files and folders on the system back to the
default settings.

Have slowly driven myself insane with this problem over the course of the
last month.

Thanks for any help you can give.
