WinXP SP2...Firewall won't shut off!
I just downloaded XP's SP2, but am now having problems accessing Internet.
(I've got a D-Link box for VoIP, Webstar Cable Modem from Optonline.) When I open Security Center, it shows Firewall On. But when I click Windows Firewall, the radio button shows Off. ??? How do I shut off the firewall? Thanks, Matt |

WinXP SP2...Firewall won't shut off!
Why shut it off,you really need to edit internet connections, then open
firewall, select exceptions, allow IE,then edit others. The modem shouldnt be the concern here,1 suggestion though, after youve edited firewall, set up connections,shut- down computer, reset or unplug the modem, sometimes to reset it for xp to access it and use,it needs to be cleared. WinXP SP2...Firewall won't shut off!
I want to shut it off because I have Norton's Internet Secuirty and Firewall
services and the D-Link has a built in gateway/firewall capability. I think this is the reason why I'm having trouble downloading and connecting to the Internet now -- too many firewall options on. I don't understand why it's saying 'on' when I select 'off'. WinXP SP2...Firewall won't shut off!
Go to START / RUN and type in SERVICES.MSC. Scroll down to WINDOWS FIREWALL.
You can stop it from running. Click on STOP and disable it from running. In the pulldown menu make sure you select DISABLE. That doesn't solve your problem as to it wont shut off though. In security center, where it says FIREWALL ON click on it to expand it, does
it have Norton's firewall listed? If so its doing its job and telling you WHICH firewall you have on, not that Windows firewall is on. "Matt" wrote in message ... WinXP SP2...Firewall won't shut off!
I had the same problem with Norton's Systemworks 2005 not allowing me to
access my home computer from a remote site using VNC. All I had to do was change the permission in the internet worm protection tab under options to "permit all" for VNC under Program control. It then worked fine. "Matt" wrote: I want to shut it off because I have Norton's Internet Secuirty and Firewall services and the D-Link has a built in gateway/firewall capability.
