Weird Start All Programs problem
When I press Start, All Programs often there's a wait of exactly 15 seconds
(timed it with a stopwatch) before the program list appears. Once it's appeared, it remains available instantly for a while, don't know how long, then after a longer while, I have to wait exactly 15 seconds again for the list. I've tried sorting it by name to see if that would help, but it didn't. Any ideas would be welcome - it's a real pita. Networked XP Pro SP2 all patched up to date. Jay |

Weird Start All Programs problem
Hi Ayush
Many thanks for your input. How do you know that it's normal? Is the behaviour documented in the MS site or some other place? Jay "Ayush" ayushmaan.j[aatt]gmail.com wrote in message ... Weird Start All Programs problem
He just knows these things , see?
It remains quick for a while because the info stays in memory. After a while you probably need to use that little bit of memory so it "unloads" the info. Then you go to start/all programs & it has to go find the info all over again. & No I dunno if i's normal either & Microsoft didn't tell me either!! Watch the light (HD access) & you'll see for yourself!! "Jay" wrote in message ... Hi Ayush Many thanks for your input. How do you know that it's normal? Weird Start All Programs problem
I've cracked it. One of the shortcuts in All Users pointed to a server that
was retired some time ago. Changed the shortcut to point to a valid location, and the problem's gone away. Wish I could retire. Hope this helps somebody. Jay "BruceM" wrote in message ... It's usually a matter of looking for something that doesn't exist when you get repeatable pauses of (now 15, and) 20 seconds g. Pop` |
