Default Windows 64bit and Windows Installer

I have a question and can't seem to figure out the answer. I have a brand
new computer with windows xp 64bit installed. However, when trying to
install certain software, an error message pops up stating that there is a
problem with Windows Installer (or that I'm in safe mode, which I'm not). I
cannot find out how to uninstall/reinstall Windows Installer.

Any help?

Thanks in advance,

drmount
