Default Cannot be found the specified unit

I run the command G: \ \ 172.16.196.2 \ Cart_Cond
where
\\172.16.196.2 is the 'WinXP gatway'
and Cart_Cond is a shared linux folder to open .
I get the error cannot found the unit specified
Yet the command okay. I 've done this before!
What can be the problem ?
Thanks

Yes the command syntax is sort of OK but you should use the IP address
of the Linux computer instead. The gateway, is typically the address
to the router/switch. My gateway address is 192.168.0.1. But its just
a device, no resurces stored on it. Just a pass through point to tie
the computers on the LAN together.

dir \\linux-ip-address\Cart_Cond

If your create a mapped drive to G: to the Cart_Cond share then you
can type the following command to access the share.

G:
