I'm new to video editing and was
wondering if anyone has used Filmora?

Also, is this link OK to use for downloads?

https://www.wondershare.net/ad/video...ArCaEALw _wcB

Thanks,
Robert

Boy you weren't kidding,..!@!! I have to re-read all
of this a few times... *L*

it sure is an eye opener,.. I just wanted to play
around a bit and see if I liked it or not or if I
could do anything? but seems too involved for me.

It's not involved particularly, but it does take
a degree of "trust" in Wondershare as a company.

It's up to each person to decide, based on track
record, what their level of trust should be. How
many times was their trust taken advantage of, and
so on.

There's nothing wrong with using a stub installer. If
I was interested in this product, I'd run the stub installer
inside a virtual machine, to provide some insulation.
Then see what the component parts are, scan them, and so on.
Until I was satisfied there weren't signs of adware
or worse.

I've tested enough free video editing products, to
not expect miracles.

I downloaded the Red 4K tool, for converting Red video
(that's a kind of camera) to regular video format. The
tool looks like a video editor, with a timeline and so
on. Well, the exported video output looked horrible.
A five dollar webcam looks nicer. There is no greater
testimonial, than a tool made by the camera company,
that cannot make good output.

To get me excited about video editing now, I would
need to hear of a *stupendous* product. And that's why
I didn't preview Filmora. I have pretty low expectations
for video editors. I expect the commercial ones that
cost $100 or so, probably aren't that bad, especially
if other people are using them.

If it helps, I've monitored a Wondershare install. It installs
all kinds of crap on your computer, which are completely unrelated to
the program's function, including in my case browser "helpers" and a
stack of adware in the *program files*\*common files* folder. Deleting
them made no difference at all to the main program's functions.
I'm referring to a registered product (not filmora in my case,
but from the same company), not a trial, downloaded directly from
their server.
They also spam your inbox, and when you click on the
"unsubscribe" button you go to a page that says your email is not
registered, so no can do.

An alternative is the AMS software. It's enough for most
people's needs and quite cheap.
(link to full version available on request)

In any case, if the OP is the kind that drinks caustic soda
for breakfast and shoots himself in the foot at night, just for the
fun of it, the "secret" download URL for the filmora installer is:

http://download.wondershare.com/cbs_...ra_full846.exe

That will always get the latest version. (7.8.9.1 ATM), which
is about 156MB.

Paul, if you want to look inside, try InnoExtractor, a
graphical interface to innounp.

http://www.havysoft.cl/

Free/Shareware.
Also available from Softpedia. I'd advise the Softpedia
download. Author has been known for bundling adware in the version on
his site. Softpedia version is clean.

What a shame. And it looked so clean, too :-)

Maybe later, it'll be time for some fun.

Weird. It installed a service AND messed with system files and
my browser. I tried one of their video softwares a couple of years
ago.
You might not be able to get it to spy on you in a VM. It has
a detection routine.

As to InnoExtractor, both the homepage and Softpedia's are identical
and clean. The author used to bundle it with fusion.
