Windows 8
I several years ago I bought an HP Stream Table with an Intel Atom
processor, 1GB of memory, and 32 GB of storage. I added a 32 GB sd card to increase the storage. It came with Windows 8 installed. It easily upgraded to Windows 10 but with each subsequent upgrade I am having increasing problems getting the upgrade install. The Fall creator edition 1709 failed, several times. I was able to remove the install files from the Softwaredistribution folder and get the computer operational. This last Tuesday patch failed, and I can not get it to install. I will have again delete the 10's of thousand files from the Softwaredistribution folder. This small computer is becoming less capable of accepting the updates, but MS continues to keep trying to upgrade the computer. All that happens is 10's of thousands more files with each failed upgrade/update. How can I reinstall the original Windows 8 OS on this computer? Yes it is obsolete, but will be supported until 2023, after that it will still work. Staying with Windows 10, at some point it will become unusable as even if I can get the upgrades installed it will out grow the 32GB of storage available. -- 2017: The year we learn to play the great game of Euchre |

Doesn't it have a factory restore partition ? A poster here, talks about transferring that partition to a USB flash stick, using an HP procedure. Potentially, somewhere in your room, is a USB stick with a copy of Windows 8 or 8.1 on it :-) The HP OS was probably supposed to prompt you to make that USB stick for later. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebo...r/td-p/4771147 It's too bad the eMMC on these machines isn't field upgradeable. Using eMMC is just about the most consumer-unfriendly solution they could have picked (the eMMC is soldered down). If it was an M.2 slot, fixing this would be soooo easy. Paul |

It failed for me once too but I accidentally stumbled on the solution. After it fails the first time, go into Windows Explorer, right-click your hard disk and clean the system files (including the update files). Then, try an upgrade again. I'm using 1709 at the moment and it's a very good update to say the least. |
