Windows Media Creation Tool

So downloaded latest Windows Creation Tool and have attempted to
download both WIN7 32 & 64 bit iso's. First problem is it starts by
using IE for the download. That leads to 2nd problem where IE does not
download entire file but states "Download Complete" anyway.

First attempt got me a 600Mb file, 2nd attempt a 800Mb file, third
attempt a 1.5Gb file. None of them complete but IE stated "Download
Complete" acting as if it had no issues. What junk. part of why I
stopped using it year or so ago now.

So how do I get Windows Media Creation Tool to use Firefox instead or am
I left with nothing but download a torrent as already suggested?

They seem to be legit.

You use the Media Creation Tools to get Windows 10, not Windows 7. For
Windows 7, you get the ISO image (.iso file) at:

First - then why does Media Creation Tool allow choices for a number of
different downloads including 7, Vista and Win10 along with Office and
Dell images? AND it starts the Win7 download and continues for "x" time
period.

That's the problem with MS's download page, needing the correct key. I
get tired really fast of going thru my list of various keys I've
accumalated over the years to find one that's accepted. They are all
legit keys many actually using a pair of tin snips to cut and keep the
sticker on the side of the pc. "We" should not have to care if it's from
MS or Dell or Gateway or whatever. We paid for it and MS should be
prepared to provide it, especially when Dell etc. offer nothing.

Page also gives no info on why the key is rejected, argh!@#.

Where's the ONE validation key they said they'd release once Win7 was
out of service? F'n liars.

No wonder I use a torrent I downloaded to install Win7 (any and every
version) on so many pcs now, no bs at all, not even validation as it's
already done, updates work etc. and the install is "clean" according to
every Malware, AntiVirus etc. I've ever run over it.

I only see Windows 10 available with that tool. That's the official
download site.

You already know that Microsoft does not provide support for OEM
versions of their software. The OEM is responsible to support the OEM
version of the OS.

Was it an OEM product key? Since you're snipping the case to keep the
product key labels, those are very likely OEM licenses.

That site has worked for me when entering retail license keys (whether
full or upgrade versions). I've not tried it using OEM license keys to
know if Microsoft provides their non-customized version of the ISO file
(versus the customized ISO from the OEM).

Well, even you know the torrent copy is an official Microsoft product
but some stolen or hacked copy. I gave you the official download site,
not from where you can steal a copy by not having to prove you have a
valid license.

There's been a problem with the Microsoft servers for
a couple years, where "raw" large file downloads just
stop, and *both* ends of the transfer think the
transfer was a normal termination.

I tried all sorts of stuff.

I even tried Netscape Communicator, the one with the
"retry" capability for downloads. And using the retry
capability, the received file was *larger* than the
expected value. Well, it was good for a laugh.

If MediaCreationTool does the download, it normally works.
BITS is the most likely subsystem doing the transfer.

If you use the Powershell "wget" lookalike, it uses BITS
and the download is correct. This is from my notes. I
tested this once, but it was a while ago.

(Start PowerShell, then try...)

Import-Module BitsTransfer
Start-BitsTransfer -source "http://urlToDownload"

And the file at the end of the urlToDownload should be
deposited in the current working directory.

I just tried that on a Win7 VM and the command did prompt
for parameters, so it'll probably work for you. Who knows,
maybe on Win10 it wouldn't need the Import-Module call.

You can start the transfer the regular way, go to your
browser and copy the "download link", then transfer that
URL over to your Powershell window and give it a whirl.

There is an alternative to Windows Media Creation Tool for downloading
Windows 7 ISOs. It is called Windows ISO Downloader.exe

I downloaded copies of Windows 7 X32 and X64 ISOs from Heidoc.net.

The X32 download was 2.5GB and took about 3.5 minutes.
The X64 download was 3.3GB and took about 4.5 minutes.

No S/N was needed for the downloads but one would be required for
installation.

Problem is I'm on a rural wireless network so speed is not yours. It
takes 12 hours or so for 3 Gb. At some point (I assume) it times out has
no retry capability and simply says finished with a "Success" meessage
which is simply a lie.
