... Does Windows 7 come without TrueType fonts? Cannot find any in c:\Windows\Fonts Also searched the whole c:\ drive without finding any *.tff. Very weird. On my Win 7 SP1 PC, c:\windows\fonts has 621 files and 411 of them are TTF files. These are visible: a) in DOS Command prompt, cd \windows\fonts, then dir *.ttf b) in Windows Explorer, as a series of icons which display the letters "Abg" in each font, with a sidebar of tools eg "Font Settings", "Adjust Cleartype text", "Change font size". This is true for two different PCs, a Dell desktop and a Samsung laptop, which suggests that it's default Windows behaviour rather than vendor-specific add-ons. |

I basically had two problems: 1) I was searching for *.tff (notice the * before the wrong file extension!) instead of .ttf (notice that there is no *) 2) When I was searching in c:\Windows\Fonts I did not have the Font File Names column selected in Windows Explorer's View - Choose Details... Without displaying this column, Windows Explorer was unable to match my search for .ttf. -- tb |

If that's what you searched for, the "no such file" response is correct. Now, if that's a typo and you meant to say you searched for *.ttf instead I'll have to ask how you searched for the files...although on a Win7 system I'm unable to come up with a valid search that doesn't find the files. Try a simple command-line search: open CMD.EXE, and use the command: DIR C:\*.TTF /S /A /P On my testbed x64 Win7 system that command finds 844 TrueType files. Joe |

In face, cd /? also says that I don't need quotes around blanks if command extensions are enabled (that works, so I guess they are here). -- Gene E. Bloch (Stumbling Bloch) |
