freeze ups
Hi All,
W-10 Pro I have a customer with a New Dell that is complaining of freeze ups. Of course, it does not do it when I am there AND he WILL NOT keep notes as to the times and what was occurring when it froze up. His response is "I don't [expletive deleted] know". I have checked in the system logs and all I can find is where he flipped the power off. I haven't tried "Who Crashed" as there is no BSOD. (I also don't know if it works under 10.) How would you guys troubleshoot this? Should I upgrade him to 1703? Many thanks, -T Follow up: The culprit turned out be be the stinkin' Intel M.2 NVMe drive. Here is the offenders part number: Intel SSD SSDPEKKW010T7X1 600p M.280mm 1TB PCI express 3.0x4 3D1 TLC Retail I go out Thursday to install a Samsung SATA SSD and clone him over. All the labor, troubleshooting and all, is free. That is the deal I make if you buy the parts from me. The new drive is even more expensive. I will swallow that too. I moved to the 2-1/2" SATA version version as his motherboard is a laptop motherboard and I noticed that it only sped up by about twice with an NMVe drive over a mechanical. And, I already know his SATA ports work right. On the bright side, I think Intel is going to refund me. I am now Samsung authorized and hope not to sell another Intel SSD so long as I live. I hope the one I have sold stay working. :'( I sincerely appreciate all the help and encouragement this group gave me in solving this. -T |

Check for a firmware update. Or check the Intel community forums, and see if this "freezing" thing is a known issue, and whether any Intel staff actually committed to fixing it. Paul |

No fooling! Check for a firmware update. Did that and it is. Or check the Intel community forums, and see if this "freezing" thing is a known issue, and whether any Intel staff actually committed to fixing it. Intel was sure gracious about saying they would try to get me a refund, so maybe they already know about it. Paul I got to get him up and going. I can't delay any longer. |
