XP Install
I wanted to keep the partition I have and simply wipe
just the one partition and reinstall XP on it. If I can help it I would like to keep the info I have on it. -----Original Message----- When you say wipe the computer clean do you mean that you want to remove the partitions as well? If so boot with the XP CD and at the first screen choose to Repair with the Recovery Console. You will be prompted for your Administrator password. Press the Enter key to use a blank password if you Admin password doesn't work. You will get a command prompt. Type DISKPART and press Enter. Follow the on screen instructions to remove all partitions. When you are finished type EXIT to quit the Recovery Console and the system will reboot. Leave the CD in the drive and then select the option to Install Windows. You will be able to create new partitions, format and install XP. If you create several partitions just ensure you install it to the first partition you create. -- Harry Ohrn MS-MVP [Shell\User] www.webtree.ca/windowsxp "Tom Jordan" wrote in message ... I've got a partitioned hard drive which is split into 4 sections. I have windows xp pro running on my E: drive and want to wipe my comuter clean and reinstall xp putting it on C:. I've tried formatting c: but windows cannot complete the format for some reason. And every time I try to install windows XP again after reboot it only gives me the previous E: selection and asks if I want to either repair it or not before install. I don't want to do either. I want to install xp on the C: drive but have no choice. Please help. |
