Reinstall the program(s) that put them there

and
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT."

Reinstall the program(s) that modified it. Because the one that is
installed with XP doesn't do much unless it is modified after
installation.

Please give me the simplest, most exact instructions to do so.
Thanks.

Was that simple enough for you?

You can find a copy of AUTOEXEC.NT in C:\Windows\Repair. Just copy it to
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

I believe you may have spyware programs on your syste. Check with

AD Aware SE 1.05
Spybot: Search and Destory 1.3
CWShredder

I am attempting to help a friend by "fixing" her computer. Yes, there were
viruses, adware, malware, etc. I have gotten all that out of the system.
I'll get the copy of AUTOEXEC.NT and see how it goes. Thanks.

I am attempting to help a friend "fix" her computer. I might be able to
figure out where some of the programs came from, but she won't be able to
tell me at all. So, although I appreciate your help, it fell a bit short of
the assistance I needed. Thanks, anyway.

Do a thorough scan for malware first. The bxxs5.dll, for example, is
part of spyware and you don't want it. See these links for removing
spyware.

http://rgharper.mvps.org/cleanit.htm
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
http://www.spywareinfo.com

For the autoexec.nt problem that's probably a result of malware on the
system. After the system is cleaned here's how you can resolve that issue:

Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit
Windows-based program
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=324767

Also can be caused by a Trojan installing a file windupdater.exe and
creating registry entries for that file.
http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...g. google.com

AVAST (free antivirus software) can be the cause if SP2 is installed:
http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...%40comcast.com

You can put back the standard version of autoexec.nt by copying a backup
copy held in windows\repair to windows\system32.

Error Message: MS-DOS or 16-bit Windows-based program
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_m.htm#16bit

This installaton program will reinstall the missing or corrupt Windows XP
system files command.com, autoexec.nt and config.nt. The absence or
corruption of one or more of these files causes a "16 Bit Subsystem" error.

I am attempting to "fix" a friend's computer. There is no way I would know
the programs that "put them there." So, this answer didn't help.
