Do you see the drive letter in Explorer, before
you insert the DVD ? There should be a drive icon.
While there is an option to "hide devices which
do not have media in them", I doubt that was done
in this case.

Sounds like the drive is not powered, or is not
seated in its connector.

Mine won't open unless the unit is powered up
and then the door release works.

First thing off my mind: Registry Upperfilter and Lowerfilter problem again?

How long had the DVD drive not been used? It might be "dead" because
moisture in electronics. Try heat it up...

Could the laptop been booted using USB drive? Try booting Win 10
installation USB and see if the drive was detected.

Did you alter BIOS settings?

Where do I go in Win 10 to allow the DVD to be seen in Win 10 File
Explorer ???

Win 10 File Explorer does not show the drive.

Q-Dir does show the drive and provides an Eject function that worked.
Unfortunately Q-Dir, although powerful, is overly complex but does NOT
show the one capability I would really like.
Q-Dir should be able to show dual panes but with entries that are
matching across and blank when there is no match. Then could show if
the matching entries contents are identical or not (simple OK or Not OK
flag). THAT WOULD BE FANTASTIC ! Easily compare folders to see it a
mismatch needs correction. Working from PC to a NAS would be easy file
by file comparison and backup. User decides not some backup app.

I only have to wait a day or two for the green bar to dissipate.
What is M$ doing with that crap.
Q-Dir immediately presents results.
File Explorer presents nothing until that green bar dissipates.
