Help on how to diagnose program locking PC. Event Viewer?
I had Acronis True Image 2016 loaded and have had other versions loaded
too, but the latest 2016 upgrade ran for a year and stupid me, I didn't realize it was a subscription edition and so it expired. I removed it and have been trying to load either my 2014 or 2015 versions. Both lock up the PC after a few minutes from install. And the problem goes away once removed. I did an image a few days ago and then did a virgin load of the latest win 10 and then loaded ATI 2014. And even that locked up with no other software installed yet (other than one batch of MS updates). I'm totally unaware of how to use the Event Viewer to look for maybe what is happening and would be interest if anyone had some basic help. When I say locks up, I should clarify that it's still running, I can mouse around and click on things, but what ever is hosed is holding up everything else. Normally after loading ATI I try to setup a new backup and after going through the setup and hitting save is when it just goes into this holding pattern. I can't Ctl-Alt-Del, or if I can get to task mgr it won't end task, and then task mgr won't close either. Can't get menu to open or explorer etc. Things are just on hold waiting for something else to finish. Like something clogging the pipeline. Until I did a clean load I always blamed it on some other programs I might have loaded but now that I did the clean load its clear it's not. I did two clean loads both the original 2015 10586 build and then todays 14398 build (sorry #'s might off but the point is original and todays builds). And they both had this issue. Ati 2014 is supposed to support Windows 10. But even 2015 failed and I know it works with win 10. Oh, and ATI is useless with support on 2014 since it's an old version they kinda toss their hands up. I've been doing images from a bootable thumb drive. I like ATI since I can read the backups and extract single files, but with the thumb drive I can't extract files now. And I'm not sure (just haven't tried) if Macrium has that feature. I like being able to get that one file from an old backup when needed. Thanks if anyone can help. Al. |
