OT - texting from a PC via email?
I'm confused about something. I don't have any native texting capabilities
with my basic cell phone (and no cell phone data plan), but I want to try sending a text message to a friend (who has texting capability on her smartphone). So I want to use my XP computer for doing this (both sending AND receiving text). Here is my limited understanding of this: I read how to use my email program to send a text message (using a SMS gateway) by sending my email to phone (for someone using Verizon), where vtext.com is Verizon's gateway. So as I understand it, my friend will get the text on their smartphone, and when she responds to that text, somehow her texting reply will automatically be sent to my email address (and not a phone number, and my phone number is not even needed). Is that correct? TIA. |

Text messages are part of basic phone service with every company I've ever had service with. Rick C. |
