Default What is the URL for the "Dark Web"?

I keep hearing about the "Dark Web" on tv commercials. That sounds like
a fun place to go. But I cant find the URL for it.

If you're serious try Torch search engine. It's a way to see what
kinds of things are on the hidden web
http://www.torchtorsearch.com/

See:
https://thehiddenwiki.org/

When you go to a website something called DNS server is the first stop
along the way. Unless you picked one (domain name server) of your
own, it is done automatically for you (your ISP supplies it). It
parses the URL or domain names into their IP number (computers don't
speak english they speak numbers)

Not all web sites have names, computers don't need them. The dark web
functions by word or mouth and invitation. You need the IP address
(number) of the server with the info you want on it, rather than the
URL. Every device has an IP address - that's how your computer talks
to other connected devices like cameras, your router, or widgets that
may be plugged into it or using WIFI.

You don't have to use the DNS your ISP supplies but can hunt the web
for others that are either more private or less restricting or both.
That doesn't affect the dark web, but it can broaden your horizons a
bit.

PS I'm an electrical engineer and not a computer guru, so there are
probably others that can educate you better than I.

That's easy to do and you dont need a URL.
What you do need is a good flashlight with decent batteries. Without the
flashlight you wont see anything. It's the DARK WEB, so there are no
lights on in there.

Once you got your flashlight and tested it to make sure it's working
properly, connect your computer to the internet. Once it's connected,
turn off the power switch on your monitor. The moment you shut that
switch off, you will enter the DARK WEB.

Remember, it's VERY DARK in there. I suggest turning the lights off in
your room too, to enhance the effect.

Now, turn on your flashlight and shine it at your monitor. Look very
deeply into the screen and watch for stray pixels. Those pixels are the
things that you can point your fingers at, and each one takes you do a
different part of the dark web. Just place a finger on any of those
pixels and enjoy the show. It's a lot of fun in there. You never know
what you might see. Just keep looking for pixels and look real deeply.

Why? Do you want troubles?

Forbidden fruit is always tastier?

It is a (engineering) mind-set too. Tell me it can't be done, and I
just have to try.

That's probably true of the dark web.

It is a (engineering) mind-set too. Tell me it can't be done, and I

I have no reason to. I did peruse some of the web sites that in-turn
look at parts of the Dark Web to see what is there then duplicate it
on their site.

But given the sheer number of things like printers, routers, web cams,
security cams, traffic cams, appliances, etc., with IP addresses, and
the fact that even if you have the IP of some site that interests you,
there's no guarantee the site will be up and working when you want to
connect to it. The sheer volume makes it hard to search/visit. The
people that are using it are probably members of the same club and
pass the IP's among themselves.

And be careful. You might get eaten by a grue. But the most
important thing to remember is ...

.... that this is satire. Very good satire.

Heck, if I want free music, it's all on youtube
anyhow and any audio recording software can save it to my hard drive.

To improve the overall tribal knowledge on this ng...

Easiest way, on Windows, to get music is to run the youtube downloader.
It converts the YouTube video to MP3 audio files (or any desired format).

Windows freeware Youtube converter:
https://youtube-dl.org/downloads/latest/youtube-dl.exe

Audio conversion software (automatically run by the youtube converter):
http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/win...n64-static.zip

Here is an example use to download any YouTube video:
c:\ youtube-dl.exe https://youtu.be/n6eXtBbhpYg

Here are more examples:
Video download as MP4:
cmd youtube-dl.exe -f 18 https://youtu.be/n6eXtBbhpYg
Audio extraction as M4A:
cmd youtube-dl.exe -f 140 https://youtu.be/n6eXtBbhpYg

If you're on iOS, you're out of luck when it comes to powerful
functionality; but if you're on Android, you can use the very powerful
NewPipe freeware program which not only replaces YouTube completely, as it
does *everything* YouTube does but it does so without ever having to log
into YouTube and it downloads and strips out the audio just as well as the
Windows youtube downloader does.

Aka members only! Getting the membership, however, might be hard!
