Default XPS Essentials Pack Installation Errors

I'm running Windows XP SP 3 and trying to install XPSEP XP and Server 2003
32 bit.msi from Microsoft. It gets too a certain point during the
installation and popups with a message
"There is a problem with the Windows Installer package. A program run as
part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact yoru support personnel
or package vendor"

I was wondering if anybody was encountering this error? I thought it had
something to do with have .NET Framework 3 but I just tried installing on a
machine with only version 2 and it still gave the same message.

Hoping somebody might have an idea why?

Thanks.

Default XPS Essentials Pack Installation Errors

XPS Essentials Pack isn't currently supported on XP SP3 - see
http://blogs.msdn.com/xps/archive/20...ws-xp-sp3.aspx

Note: if you already have .Net 3x installed, you have XPS creation and
viewing already.

Default XPS Essentials Pack Installation Errors

I work with Cameron Shaw. On the Windows XP SP3 workstations we have, if
one double clicks a file with the .xps extension, one gets a message box
that says:

"The beta period has expired for the XML Paper Specification Viewer."

The .Net Framework 3.0 SP1 and .Net Framework 3.5 are both installed on
these workstations.

So, how do we fix this problem?

Sounds like you installed a pre-release beta version of the XPS Essentials
Pack which has now expired. You need to install either the essentials pack by
downloading a final release install (www.microsoft.com/xps) or .Net, not both.

Since you have .Net installed already I suspect that the machine has a
default XPS association to the expired Essentials Pack beta - if you select
open with (right click on the icon) you should see 'XPS Viewer' and 'XPS
Viewer EP'. If that's the problem, then you can switch the default.

Hi Cameron, if you're using the samples in SampleXpsDocuments_1_0.xps then
this is expected. From the readme: "We've also created some documents that
are intended to fail, violating at least one conformance rule."
