Default Small Laptops With "Big" Screens?

I'm shopping for a laptop.

A nice-to-have would be minimal physical size with a high-rez screen so
I can hang a large monitor on it for extended use yet carry it
conveniently.

Most of what I have seen so far is 1366x768 with one departure to
1600x900 per http://tinyurl.com/lhp2n5n - but that's a 17" screen.

The Surface paradigm has been calling out to me for awhile, but I have
doubts about functionality/horsepower.

Surface-type devices aside, has anybody seen a physically-small laptop
(let's say 15" or smaller) with decent horsepower and a graphics card
that will support 1920x1080 resolution on an external monitor?
