Default Q? which CPU is faster and how much?

I have a northwood celeron 2.6 ghz
and a northwood Pentium 4 2.53 ghz

same socket, same microns....

whis is faster and how much faster?

I am now using the celeron as my main pc... is it worth the swap?

Also which one would be the best candidate for vista of the 2?

I do lots of multitasking..not games.. mostly graphics, video, internet
stuff...

thanx

The P4 has a bigger cache and should do more in the same
time [faster]. Also, the P4 will run the mobo frontside bus
at a higher clock rate, which speeds up data transfer rates

Kind of interesting that you do a lot of posting in the vista.general
newsgroup trashing on it, yet you want to know what hardware will make it
run the best for you. I would think asking this question in a hardware
newsgroup would be the better forum.

(I think I see a little over-reaction.)

Vista will be as successful as Windows Millenium, and in many ways
appears to have shades of Microsoft Bob !!!! (if you remeber that one).
Many of the 'revolutionary' technologies have been dumped, like WinFS. It
main offering is nothing more than a new Theme....AeroGlass. Many people
I know while intrigued by the current Windows animations at first, like
fading menu's, soon turn off all of that because in a very short time, it
becomes very annoying.

With reference to the fading menu's.....I'm looking for a way's to speed
my computer up, not slow it down. Waiting for the menu to fade in is a
waste of time. Sure it only takes half a second, but those half-seconds
really add up.

DanS

Why reinvent the wheel. Go look and read what the hardware reviewers
have already done. Heck they may have that combo tested in the same review.

I have used some simple benchmarks but this would need something more
complex.

Do you know of a good free one to suggest that will test not only the cpu
speed
but also compare the advantage of the cache and faster FSB that one has with
the other?

"Sandra" can benchmark and compare your hardware with different cpus and
memory. In the past it was free to use. Do a search.

I just think it's funny you post all that trash talk, then slink in here to
ask about what is the best way to run it. Why not ask in there? Anyway it
makes no difference, I don't care why or what you decide to do. Have fun
with it, and have the last word if you feel so inclined.

The difference is near epsilon with such a small gap. Be aware that CPU
speed becomes fairly irrelevant after about 2GHz in general these days. If
you want to make Windows go faster, throw more money at your graphics card,
consider moving to a faster hard drive (if you're on PATA, you'll
definitely want to upgrade to a SATA-capable system), and ADD MORE RAM.
You simply can't throw enough memory at Windows: It expands to fill all
available resources over time. (Sometimes I wonder if it's like why Oregon
probably won't ever build another freeway: Traffic expands to fill all
available roadways, building more roads causes more traffic)
