Group policy stopping me from doing systemj restore etc.
Hello folks,
I've had problems with spyware and viruses which, as far as I was aware, I'd managed to get rid of using Malware and norton but, when I try to do a system restore, i get the following message: "System restore has been turned off by group policy. To turn on system restore, contact your domain administrator" I'm not linked to any domain, it's just my PC in my house. I don't know what to do. |

Group policy stopping me from doing systemj restore etc.
I found the following from Taurarian which helped me:
For WinXP Home Click Start/Run and type REGEDIT Locate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Win dows NT\SystemRestore In the right-pane, delete the value "DisableConfig". Close Registry Editor Close and re-open the System Restore properties page. Note you can save the registry key first by: On the File menu, click Export. In the File name box, type SaveKey, and then click Save. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;322756 HOW TO: Back Up, Edit, and Restore the Registry in Windows XP Disclaimer: Modifying the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Use the information provided at your own risk. Cheers Taurarian dude. Group policy stopping me from doing systemj restore etc.
Although this allowed me to do a system restor, it would seem that whatever
caused the problem has deleted all my restore points and taken a restore point on the day of infection which means restore is not an option as far as I'm aware. I'd like to reset to factory settings using ALT F11 but, when I try this, it just gives me an evil beeping noise and doesn't let me. Has this also been disabled? And is there a register that can be deleted to enable this again? Please help someone.
