How to get into safe mode with regular mode doesn't work. what is "safe Mode with regular mode"? F8 no longer works. This was deprecated since Windows 8 came out. Idiots have no place on windows newsgroup. I am looking for a replacement for f8. The link was provided but you like to be spoon fed. Go **** yourself. And next time, read what I write I read everything between lines when I reply. Now go and take lessons to read technical documents. and keep your asinine comments to yourself. I post on a public newsgroup and if you don't like it, then you should know what you can do about it. Is that clear or do I need to simplify it further? I don't spoon feed idiots. -T -- With over 600 million devices now running Windows 10, customer satisfaction is higher than any previous version of windows. |

Then I set it to repair and left her watching it. It took all day, but it worked. I did not realize this was an actual feature. It was more fun when I though I was ****ing Windows off. :-) |

And next time, read what I write and keep your asinine comments to yourself. -T There's a fun way here to do it. Apparently there is a registry setting available. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/for...nto-safe-mode/ "Kaspersky Registry Editor" https://support.kaspersky.com/us/8110 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\SafeBoot\Option] "OptionValue"=dword:00000001 ******* It's possible to do an offline bcdedit, using Command Prompt from an installer DVD. But, that doesn't always work, for example if a user has a dual boot situation (a lot of these experiments of mine, they "fail" on my Win10/Win10 dual boot setup). The dual boot seems to scuttle some of the bcdedit "normal" behaviors. The dual boot even does "double starts" because it's such a goofy implementation. The first command, allows you to install the boot menu option on a normally working OS. I left the big space here, to match up with the second example below. bcdedit /set {bootmgr} displaybootmenu True The second command is done from an installer DVD or emergency WinPE CD and the Command Prompt on there. First, you must use "dir" profusely, and convince yourself what drive letter the OS hidden BCD file is actually on. For example, I typically see D: while the emergency boot OS is always on X: . It's up to you to figure out whether the BCD is on the OS partition, on System Reserved, or whatever. Now, the VM I tested this in, it was on C: but it took me a few moments to find it :-/ Because it's on C: , I might not even have needed the offline format to do it. You can't miss, because it'll confirm it edited *something*. Just make sure the *something* isn't the wrong hard drive etc. dir /AH C:\boot\BCD # verify it is there. bcdedit /store C:\boot\BCD /set {bootmgr} displaybootmenu True Here's a sample of the result. Some of the BCD items displayed by using just "bcdedit" as a command, the True and False are displayed as Yes and No. https://s14.postimg.org/m3czjyvch/win10_boot_menu.gif You can probably adjust the 30 second timer to a lesser value as well, so your customers won't freak out. Later, you can delete the DisplayBootMenu item entirely, or you can just leave it there and set it to False, to get rid of it. ******* I'm sure you can look up the other methods as easily as I can :-) I just thought that one was fun, for the Neanderthal aspects of it. Everybody loves to see a WinXP black-colored menu on their computer, right ? Paul |

Windows has to be working for that to work. I do believe I will use this for working versions though. msconfig has been my go to method for when Windows is working, but only because I can remember "msconfig". My big problem with msconfig has been forgetting to put it back after I am through with it. Thank you for the help! -T |
