Hi,

I can only boot into XP by boot from CD first. If I boot up from harddisk I
get "NTLDR is missing" No "Recovery Console" option is found when I try to
boot the the XP installation CD for me to fix the mbr issue. Any advice ?
thanks

We need more information.

Did you indeed boot off the XP installation CD? Keep in mind that you
need to configure the BIOS to do just this. You also said the Recovery
Console option is not listed. What exactly *do* you see? Perhaps this
page can help:

Do you not see a screen similar to this one?:

Bios is setup to boot from harddisk already.

When I boot from installation disk, it just show me the option to install
the Windows into which partition.

Grab this archive and create the bootable USB:

XP_Emergency_Boot_Loader_on_USB.zip 526 KB
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ymnnz3ytzfe

When your desktop loads, copy the file "ntldr"
on the USB to the Windows drive (C:\).

I asked you to indicate *exactly* what you see. You haven't done that!
Just humor me, follow my directions, and write down all the text you see
and include it in your next post.

It sounds like what you are referring to (but I can't be sure since you
didn't tell me exactly!) is this screen:

http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winx...ges/Image6.gif

But as you can see from this guide, there are a few screens before this
one:

http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winx...exfullpage.htm

The only way to get the screen I think you are describing is to hit the
Enter key while you are in this screen:

http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winx...ges/Image4.gif

Instead, you need to press the R key in order "[t]o repair a Windows
installation using Recovery Console."

If there is something truly wrong with your XP installation CD, you may
download an .iso to create a special boot up CD that only contains the
Recovery Console:
