Blue Screen - What to do?
"Yousuf Khan" wrote in message ... On 01/07/2012 4:37 PM, Ann B. wrote: Thanks, Glee. My consultant said the Windows firewall was OK to use for a short time; if I were just going to need a firewall in the interim before buying a new computer. (Current PC is 10 yrs old!) Since I'd been running free ZA for many years without a single problem and feel very safe with it, I preferred to reload it. I will however remember your opinion if it happens again. And I will be looking into purchasing a new computer, perhaps an all in one, to get rid of some wires and the tower. Have to do some research. I personally haven't seen much wrong with the Windows firewall that comes included with Windows. I used to use ZoneAlarm in the past, and it's biggest problem was too much protection, where it interfered with legitimate uses of the network by other programs. I agree. I also used ZA for years, first the free firewall, then later on, the suite. I found it easy to use and setup, and it did what it was supposed to do. Unfortunately, it went the way of Norton and McAfee; it became so bloated and such a resource hog that I finally dumped it and went to Windows firewall and MSE. I have had no intrusions or nasties using that combination for well over a year, so unless something changes drastically with it, I'll stay with it. -- SC Tom |

Yes, the simple firewalls and anti-viruses are the best. Yousuf Khan |

I think the newer ZA doesn't stay in background as much as the older version I was running; it keeps asking me about the same applications, even though I tell it to remember the setting. Wondering if anyone's used Avira for the firewall function? I use the anti-virus and am very pleased with it. Had used Norton but a few years ago it froze up my computer. So got rid of all of it and went to Avira. What a difference!! Cheers, AB |
