Default explorer replacement with BIG file preview

as per subject, I'm looking for an explorer replacement to manage PDF
files, moving/copying between folders

the default thumbnail view is not enough to show the content

the idea is a three-pane explorer, like in recent windows: the folder tree,
the folder content and the pdocument preview

any suggestion?

TIA

Google:
windows explorer size of thumbnail

Top result:

Look for the info under "ThumbnailSize Registry Hack"

thank you

I used good old powertoys tweakui to increase to the maximim size, 256
pixels

that's not yet enough, for sure a windows pane with readable preview, like
in w7/8/10 is the proper solution

Assuming you enabled display of the preview pane in Windows Explorer,
why can't you drag its left-side border to increase its width? Hover
the mouse cursor over the left vertical border of the preview pane until
the cursor turns into a doubled horizontal arrow then click and drag.
With Windows Explorer and with its preview pane expanded to occupy half
the screen, you can click on a .pdf file and read it in the preview pane
very easily without having to double-click the file to load it into a
PDF viewer program.

I haven't been on Windows XP for many years so I wasn't sure if its
Windows Explorer had a preview pane. So I searched online using:

https://www.google.com/search?q=%22w...view+pane+size

and found as the 2nd article:

https://www.microsoft.com/resources/...view_pane.mspx

If you don't want to use the preview pane then increase the size of the
thumbnails. In the above Google search, the following was the 1st
article:

You mentioned in your original post .pdf files. Would I be right in
thinking that in effect you want a _viewer_, e. g. that can show more
than the firs page in the case of .pdf files rather than just a
thumbnail (of the first page) however large? Like perhaps email
software, with a "preview pane" option (as most email softwares have)?

actually the need is this one:
the lady in the office makes a lot of scans using the MFP, and saved PDF
files have names like 20171124-115322.pdf (year, month, day, hour etc etc)

after all the scans she goes back to her desktop and starts renaming and
moving items fron the shared scan folder to proper destination directories,
renaming with "intelligent" names

but she still has a Win XP machine

the first page is enough, no need to read page two or three

thumbnails, even set at 256 pixel, are not clear enough to read i.e. the
invoice number or the product code

that's it

she will change the computer in about 9-12 months (it's in the next year
budget) but meanwhile she'd like to speed up his tasks (as explained in the
other post)

The solution is simple :-) With a big marker pen,
write the name of the document on a separate
sheet of blank paper, and put it in front of the
first sheet of the document to be scanned. It
will function as the "name" sheet. If the
letters are large enough, they can be read
in the thumbnail view.

How about this: Irfanview can view PDF files. You could use its
Thumbnail viewer to display preview thumbnails of a fairly large size,
and you can also rename and move files from there.

Yes, a lot of scanning software still defaults to making .pdf rather
than .jpg (or .gif, or .png). I doubt you will be able to change the
default. (It used to be a valid reason for using .pdf files, that
"everyone" has a viewer for .pdf, but doesn't for .jpg; however, I doubt
that is still the case.) [The other possible validity for using .pdfs
for scanning is that it is easier to make multipage ones. I suspect she
doesn't make multipage ones, however.]

after all the scans she goes back to her desktop and starts renaming and
moving items fron the shared scan folder to proper destination directories,

Is that a problem? Or is it for her that you want this zooming
explorer/viewer for (since you're asking here), rather than yourself?

Good lateral thinking - _if_ she is indeed making multipage .pdfs.

yes, of course, I'm trying to help the lady: she can barely use explorer
and doesn't want a different tool: this is why I'm searching an explorer
extension/plugin or a *VERY* similar program to manage those PDF files,
viewing, renaming and moving without the need to run an external software.

OK, how about this.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/sagethumbs/

Test that some place safe first... Not on the
lady machine right away. It says it supports WinXP,
but we all know what that means "oopsy" the developer
said, "I forgot to remove WinXP from the description".
