Ok i cant put a file into this post, so ill just put down
the contents...
Ok here is a better description of the problem
I try to dial my ISP...
The dialogue box appears "Dialing 0808 991 6001"
then EITHER...

(a) Nothing happens. The modem doesn't dial. The PC is
then locked up for about 20 seconds during which I can do
nothing, the mouse pointer does not move. The PC then
unlocks.. but it's about 2mins more before I can get back
into Dial Up Networking and retry. During this 2 mins if I
click on SHOW ALL CONNECTIONS or CONNECT TO... in the
start menu, nothing happens.

or

(b) The modem dials (audibly) and the beeping noise stops
as if it's connected, but instead of saying connecting the
dialogue box stays on "Dialing 0808 991 6001" and is
locked up again.

(c) It works OK.


I've tried another ISP. I've tried different dialup
numbers for my current ISP. All the same problems.
I started with the modem driver on the CD enclosed with
the modem. The version for this driver is Hayes accura
pci v.92 faxmodem. its is the original disk
version...although i cant find a driver coding for it!

my hayes accura v.92 modem. so i installed it the same
way as the manual said to...drivers then modem the finish
drivers. and the modem will not connect to the phone
line
reliably, every 50th time or so. now when dial is
pressed
the computer hangs and then 30-40 secs later it wakes
again and then repeats the this procedure when it tries
to
hang the modem. even when the phone line is not
connected
to the modem it does this. SO i decided to reformat my
comp and to no avail it is doing exactly the same
again....
PLz can someone help here are my stats
XP pro sp1a OEM no other updates
P4 3ghz 800fsb chip
is7-g mobo ABIT latest bios revision
maxtor 80gb hdd SATA
msi cdrw
msi dvdrom
msi 5900utd256 g card detonator 43.25 i think drivers
direct x9a
audigy 2 in pci slot 4 (pci 5 in the mobo reckoning
because of gigabit lan taking pci1 up
and that bascially is it
And my hayes modem is in pci5 (6) and i have tried it in
pci 1 (2)

Can anyone please help my sorry ass!
this is my first experience with xp as i have a couple of
98 computers!!!!!
