Default DVD/DirectX problem

-----Original Message-----
I have a Toshiba 1105 laptop computer. When I tried to
run a DVD in my player, I received a message "CREATE
OVERLAY FAILED. LOWER SCREEN RESOLUTION OR COLOR DISPLAY
DEPTHS. TRY AGAIN". Lowering the settings as suggested
didn't help atall.

I then when to the DirectX diagnostics. In DISPLAY, I
don't have DIRECT DRAW (acceleration) or AGP
TEXTURE...both are not available. I receive another
window prompt when testing: "DIRECT 3D @ STEP 8 FAILED"
HR RESULT= 0X8007000e (OUT OF MEMORY) 8 & 9 STEPS were
successfull.

I downloaded DirectX ver.9 again, and it didn't help.
What do I have to do to get this thing functioning again?
I don't have any laplink programs installed.

Thanks, I appreciate your help.
