Microsoft Works Suite 2005
On 12/12/12 00:07, Rob wrote:
So is Works compatible with W7 ????????????????????? The answer, as has been posted several times is "nobody knows" because Works 2005 is not listed on the MS software compatibility site. So your only choice is to try it and see. However, if as you state, it came with your current computer (albeit that you paid for it) then as Ken said, it's OEM and is not legally transferable to any other machine... -- Microsoft Community Contributor (MCC) 2011/12 |

Was Works 2005 even available in two versions, OEM and retail? If it was, can he tell from the CD - which he has - which version he has? (I imagine yes, from the part number on the CD, though actually finding a list of which is which might be hard.) Can you get away with violating the licensing rules? Ah, in that case you know that Works 2005 (I think it was) was actually available as an OEM copy. I did not know whether it was, as could have been divined from what I said. (Were it the case that it was only available as Retail, then it would not make any difference whether the builder was an OEM or not. Even if it _was_ available in both forms, the builder _could_ have bought a Retail one, though I agree it's unlikely.) -- J. P. Gilliver. I don't think the Win 7 Home version has the VM stuff. According to this wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Works Works 9 is compatible with Vista, so there's a good chance it'll work with Windows 7 which is basically Vista done properly. Bottom line: Works 2005 installed on the new PC with Windows 7. At the end I
had to type in the 25-digit product key from the CD package and it appears to work OK. "dweebken" wrote in message ... With _some_ Microsoft products, if it's a 25-character key (5 groups of 5), it's a retail; the OEM ones have "OEM" in place of one of the groups (the second one IIRR). I don't know if this applies to all MS products though. (Even if it is retail, of course, you're supposed to uninstall it from the old machine, unless - highly unlikely - it is one of those licences that is for up to three [or whatever] machines. Whether Works 2005 was available in that format, I have no idea.) -- J. P. Gilliver. UMRA: 1960/1985 MB++G()AL-IS-Ch++(p)Ar@T+H+Sh0!:`)DNAf All I ask is to _prove_ that money can't make me happy. |
