Losing Folder View Settings
Greetings,
I recently began losing my folder settings in WIN 7 Pro. I want detailed views in all folder and subfolder trees and for some reason explorer randomly defaults to a tile view. Even after resetting it to details. Searching was no help. No bugs found. I need to set the entire folder contents of the c drive to details and have it stay that way.. Anyone have this happen to them? Could it be a corrupt registry? I recently cloned the drive to an SSD but initially had no problems. Thanks. Any help or tweaks would be appreciated. --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Antivirus protection is active. http://www.avast.com |

Antivirus protection is active. http://www.avast.com See this article http://www.thewindowsclub.com/window...-view-settings Windows by design is configured to remember 5000 folders. After 5000 it stops remembering and is supposed to retain the original 5000 folders' settings (which are stored in the registry) but sometimes Windows forgets. A regedit of a few keys can change the value but caution is warranted when changing it upward too high since new entries will increase registry size and just as important a need to filter through the table of 'remembered folder view settings' before acting on the setting value. Searching via Google, Bing, etc...on similar terms should provide different articles covering the same topic (and usually with the same recommendations). -- ....winston msft mvp consumer apps |

There is a setting under Folder Options that you can reset folders like this. If you don't do this, it will always return to what that is set to. Under Explorer: Tools Folder Options View (tab) Apply to Folders (button) or Organize Folders ans search options View (tab) Apply to Folders (button) -- Bill Gateway M465e ('06 era) - Thunderbird v24.3.0 Centrino Core2 Duo T7400 2.16 GHz - 4GB - Windows 7 Home SP1 |

Losing Folder View Settings
See he
http://www.jsware.net/jsware/nt6fix.php5#folfix The download is an HTA powered by VBScript. I initially wrote a fix for XP folders, many years ago, because Explorer in XP has a bug that's never been fixed: Explorer saves details of folder settings -- up to 5,000 -- in the Registry. But it doesn't do it properly. As a result it then ignores its own settings! The system can be fixed by repairing the settings Explorer has written, so that window size and view style will be remembered. The download above is the same utility for Vista/7. Vista/7 Explorer settings in the Registry are slightly different from XP. Usually the whole thing seems to work pretty well in Win7, but if not you can try this fix. There are directions and explanation when you open the HTA in the download. If you prefer not to use an unknown utility, you can use the explanation and VBScript code as guidance to make the Registry setting repairs yourself. It's not terribly complex. You just have to delete existing folder settings, then create a series of keys and settings under HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft \Windows\Shell\Bags\AllFolders that will apply to all future folders opened. On XP it's possible to stop the Windows intrusion that overrides your choice of display type based on content. (Ex. Showing thumbnails when a folder contains mainly JPGs.) I don't remember offhand whether the Win7 Folder Fix can do that. "Jackson" wrote in message ... | Greetings, | | I recently began losing my folder settings in WIN 7 Pro. Thank you all for your efforts. I did not know of the 5000 folder
settings limit (bug?). Will try your suggestions. Thanks again. Jackson wrote: Greetings, I recently began losing my folder settings in WIN 7 Pro. | Thank you all for your efforts. I did not know of the 5000 folder | settings limit (bug?). It was 400 in Win9x. In XP it's 5,000 and can be increased, but Explorer generally ignores them anyway, as explained in my last post. I don't use Win7 very much, but in writing a folder fix utility for it, as near as I can tell, Explorer in Win7 doesn't check the individual folder settings at all. A fix has to be done through HKCU\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\All Folders\Shell\ |
