SM Bus controller the driver for this device is not installed (code 28)

Default SM Bus controller the driver for this device is not installed (code 28)

in windows xp pro in divice manager under other divices i
hve a question mark and under it, SM bus controller and
if you click properties, it says:
SM bus Controller
Device type: other device
Manufactu unknown
Location: PCI bus 0,device 31 function 3

under device status, The drivers for this device are not
installed.(code 28)
I tried reinstalling the drivers from the driver CD and
can not figure out how to correct this!!!!!!!!!! Please
help.

Is this an Intel chipset motherboard? I believe you need to install the Intel INF chipset drivers.

Visit the support website of the manufacturer of your computer
or motherboard and download the motherboard chipset drivers
and install them.
