Default DVD/CD HARDWARE PROBLEM

Just in the last couple of days the DVD/CD drive is showing up as unknown in
system properties. While the CD Plays and records it will not play a DVD.
Everyone here in the office has the same type of machine, yet there drives
show up properly in system properties. I have refreshed the drive to no
avail.. any ideas...

Did you try reinstalling your DVD decoding software (probably either
PowerDVD or WinDVD).

Not sure I appreciate the sex change, "yes Ma'am" would have been more
appropriate!

The CD part of the drive and the DVD part use different lenses so it is
possible the DVD lens has failed or is dirty. Hare you tried a standard CD
cleaning kit? Failing that, time to replace the drive.
