Gang,

1. I am a Mac User
2. I am very Win-friendly
3. I am trying to help a family friend

She just reinstalled Win-XP and she now needs to reestablish her Earthlink
connection and setup her Outlook Express info.

I was able to help her with the earthlink-modem connection but when she
tried to pull up IE and open a website she received the 'unable to find
server' error. Before I go over this weekend and start dinking around I
wanted to stop in here and ask for help.

here is what I need in order

1. Establish Earthlink account info with the modem (this is done, I think)
2. Enter her Earthlink account info into Outlook Express (this should be an
easy thing under preference or ?)
3. Make sure IE can find the network (what do I look for here)

Thanks a bunch - JD

Mike,

I already have that info. My main question is why does IE say "unable to
find server" even when she gets connected ?

Did she (you) reinstall the modem drivers? Does the modem work? Look in
Device Manager for the status of the modem. If it appears with no
yellow exclamation mark and responds to a Windows modem query, you
should still test it. I always test modems with Hyperterminal. Use
Hyperterminal to call another phone number such as your cell phone.

If it is Earthlink's home page that won't load, try another..
