Default Recent documents - how long are they stored?

The history of those recent documents, is there a setting that controls
how long they stay there?

No - you either have recently opened documents saved into the "Recently Opened
Documents" list or not.

However, it is possible to get this list to automatically clear when you reboot.

To do this, open [Regedit.exe] and create a new binary value named
"ClearRecentDocsOnExit" and give it a value of "01,00,00,00" under the following
reg-key :

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer]

OR...

Download a [simple] reg-file that will do this for you, from the web-page by clicking
on the link below :

http://www.4shared.com/file/25705415...Exit__On_.html

....just double-click on it to import the setting.
