Default lost icons after defrag

A friend has lost the desktop icons after a defrag.
Can you help please.

Default lost icons after defrag

Defragmenting won't lose icons. Something else caused your friend's problem.

For help with a problem, please be sure to post a detailed explanation
of the issue, and include the version of Windows (including the service
pack number.) Remember, we rely completely on your description for
information.
