Microsoft Replacing Edge With New Chromium-based Browser

I am using Vivaldi for the following reasons:

1. Built-in zoom allows per-site zoom at values other than 110%,
125%, 150%...

2. Supports minimum font size settings.

3. Effective translation is available using Google's Google
Translate extension.

4. There are extensions for Naver LINE, Tideways and NordVPN.

5. Available for Linux and MS Windows.

6. Effective synchronization between supported platforms.

At the time of writing there is no Android version of Vivaldi but I
understand it is now a high priority for them. I use DuckDuckGo
browser for Android for the present.

If there is any other browser that can meet all 6 minimum requirements
please let me know...

I've been reading about YOUR browser provider, he-

https://vivaldi.com/company/#howWeDoIt

I've not yet discovered how 'they' provide their services without charge
to you, the user. Can you explain/point me in the right direction?

I was delighted to find that they have a version for Apple computers.
I've downloaded it but not yet installed. I'll await your response
first! I'm always cautious with regard to products which are not
available through the Apple App Store!

Scrolling a PDF, shouldn't lock up other desktop input.

The file is actually 36,300 pages. 263,964,580 bytes
is the size of the copy I have. The amount of text inside
is considerably smaller, even though the formatting
of the PDF is relatively plain.

https://download.microsoft.com/downl...er_2006_R2.pdf

1) Open the completely downloaded PDF file with Edge.

2) Do a find for a search word. The purpose of using the
search word, is so Edge helper will parse most of the file.

https://s14.postimg.cc/dei2unfcx/Edge_Opens_pdf.gif

3) Watch rpcss and LSAFreeMemory or so, railed when
Edge needs garbage collection. It seems a strange
function to be railed on. Now, you can't start Notepad
with a double-click, until this railed action finishes.

https://s14.postimg.cc/6ba7eypc1/Rpc_Ss_busy_loop.gif

Found around Feb.2018 timeframe.

I doubt that. MS and Google are not friends!
Â*Â* I would rather suspect that G is stealing from MS !!

Google = malware!

The Chromium browser engine is open-source so you can use it without
including Google services. Of course, any additions made to the code of
the engine itself will become available to Google in the same way that
they will be to Microsoft itself so there will likely be little
difference between whatever Microsoft creates and Google Chrome itself.

Don't they all have that? what I'd like is max
font sizing, so that I can read pages with 20px text
designed for phones. I get that in Firefox only by setting
no style.

|
| If there is any other browser that can meet all 6 minimum requirements
| please let me know...

I don't know what most of your requirements
even mean. Why do I need to zoom so much?
Tideways? NordVPN? I don't know what those
are. How about NoScript, DownloadHelper,
SecretAgent, and 500+- settings options? Does
Vivaldi have those? Is there another reason I
should look at it?

Oh, wait... One page says, "Take back your privacy".
Sounds good.

But....
Another page says, "When you install Vivaldi browser ("Vivaldi"), each
installation profile is assigned a unique user ID that is stored on your
computer. Vivaldi will send a message using HTTPS directly to our servers
located in Iceland every 24 hours containing this ID, version, cpu
architecture, screen resolution and time since last message."
!!!

I know. It's anonymous. Blah, blah, blah. It's spyware.
Calling home with reports is spyware. And sure enough,
after it started it tried to call Iceland without asking.
But then it tried to call Google. (172.217.10.238) Then it
tried to call another Google IP. (216.58.222.174). And
yet another. (216.58.219.238) It's running for 5 minutes
while I look at settings options and it's already tried to
call Google 3 times! What was that about privacy?

Yet the search suggestions I don't want are set to
come from Bing. And even when I've turned off both
auto-complete and search suggestions, there they are
as soon as I touch the address bar! With such Bing
infestation, why is it calling Google?

Can this get any worse? Was it designed by Googlites
hanging out on Google+?

There seem to be no settings even for such simple
things as script or tabs. I can't disable script? I can't
not have tabs? I don't know because there seems to
be no help file! (A website is not a help file.) But I sure
can't find those settings.

At one point there was a problem with the install and
it showed me a message saying the install failed. "Please
download Google Chrome again." Did the Vivaldians
actually do anything other than wrap Google Chrome?

And why can't it load in a normal window? Rule #1
of good software design is don't overrule user choice.
But my only choice is a UI that looks like Mac, with a
Metro-esque design theme. Flat. Boring. Uninformative.
The one good point is that I can still have a menu. Except
that the menu doeasn't work properly. If I click one menu
and then move to the next, it doesn't pick up the hover
and open that menu. I have to click each one separately.

But do let me know if you happen to hear about
a good max text sizing extension for firefox.

Sorry. Sometimes getting straight to the point can come off
a bit rude.

My customers who are IE fans do not like Edge at all, so I remove
their icons and replace them with IE. I try to get them on Firefox.
The biggest selling of Firefox is the "uBlock Orgin" plug in (an
add blocker).

that's not a very good selling point, since ublock origin is available
for several browsers, *including* edge:

Take a peak at

https://brave.com

It has build in ad blocking and is very fast. Its does not
accommodate pop ups though. It is my "if Firefox doesn't work"

Whether it is 'good news' or not depends on the level of Microsoft spyware
built into the thing and how far they'll go to push it, and Bing, onto users.

To me, whether it's good news or bad depends on what it turns out to
be like. Of all the browsers I've tried, I think Edge is the worst,
and Chrome is only one step above it.

My understanding that the new browser will use Chrome's engine, but
not be like Chrome itself. We'll see. If I were betting on it, I
would bet that I'd like it better than Edge, but think it was nowhere
near as good as FireFox.

I like and use Firefox to, but recently Page Up and Page Down, and the
Up and Down arrows have made the page jump all over the place. Clicking
in the scroll bar including the ends of the scroll bar does the same
iirc.

I t hink this has happened on other pages but it almost constantly
happens in the Forums at www.tripadvisor.com .

Has anyone else noticed this? TripAdvisor or other places too.

Do I have to report it, or will all the beta testers do so?

I don't care. I wasn't proposing universal requirements. These are my

For me that is not unreasonable.

You are not doing it right. The only search suggestions I see are from
from previously typed requests, history and bookmarks. These three
sections are clearly separated and identified in the drop-down menu.

I use DuckDuckGo as my search engine.

There seem to be no settings even for such simple
things as script or tabs. I can't disable script? I can't

There is a large settings section devoted to tabs. I don't understand
how you could miss it.

By clicking to the left of the URL in the address bar site settings
can be accessed and JavaScript and other features can be disabled on a
per-site basis.

At one point there was a problem with the install and
it showed me a message saying the install failed. "Please

This has never happened to me. Maybe there is something wrong with

Vivaldi has one of the most customisable browser interfaces I have
seen. This includes native window decorations.
