Does anybody from MS read this stuff?
Everyday I keep looking for a solution to my printing
problem (and a lot of other people that have the exact same problem according to the posts in this newsgroup) but there's never a solution posted that works. Does anybody at Microsoft read these posts? Is there some other way we can contact Microsoft for a solution? The problem is: the print spooler is not loading, which means we can't print. Nothing works to get it started, at least nothing that's been suggested for the last 4 week's worth of posts. |

This is primarily peer-to-peer support. Sometimes Microsoft support
professionals post here but it is by no means a certain thing. Other possible avenues of support include the support services of your printer maker-whom you do not mention, and Microsoft Support. http://support.microsoft.com/default...EN-US;CNTACTMS Good luck. I see I was too subtle.
Please post details about: your printer-make and model; source of printer driver-disk that came with the printer, drivers from the Win XP CD; drivers downloaded from what web site. Also: what happened when you try to print especially any error messages. Also: what you have done so far to try to resolve the problem. Making the dangerous assumption that the printer is connected directly to your computer (i.e. not over a network) In the meantime, try turning the spooler off and set to print directly to the printer. This setting is usually found in Start Printers and faxes. Highlight the printer. Select Properties. Advances Print directly to the printer. Let us know. -- Tom MSMVP PS-D "Jmerrill" wrote in message ... You missed the point Tom. It doesn't make any difference
what printer (it happens to be an Epson 825 on a Dell 4550 machine) and the drivers that were installed are the ones that came with the printer on the Epson CD. When I try to print, I get an error that says I first have to install a printer because it's not there any more. When I click on the icon to add printer, I get the error message: "Operation Could Not Be Completed." From other posts to this newsgroup that had the same problem, it is suggested that I need to check the print spooler and if necessary, restart it. I did that by going to My Computer, right clicking on Manage, clicking on Services and Applications, clicking on Services, going to the line Print Spooler and clicking on the link "start". At this point I get the error message "Could not start the Print Spooler service on LocalComputer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start." I also have tried the dos command "net stop spooler" then "net start spooler" from the Run box, but nothing happens. I went into the registry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\C ont rol\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers" and deleted all the drivers listed, but nothing. I made sure I had the SP1 patch installed, I'm also logged in as administrator in XP. I contacted Epson, and they said it was an XP problem. I contacted Dell, and got caught in an email submission loop telling me to resubmit my problem, which I did, and I get another email telling me to resubmit to the same place again. So that's what I've done Tom, and these are the results. If you could tell me something else to do that would fix things, I'll be happy to name my next son Tom, in your honor. The printer maker and model and source of the driver matter because
sometimes there are issues with particular printer drivers. Also, some problems arise because people are trying to install Windows 9x drivers on a Windows XP system. I am indeed scratching my head over this one. First, I would check out the Win XP drivers on HP.com and see if those you have are the same. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/s...p e=Downloads Next, I would check the inf directory on the computer for *.inf or *.pnf files that might match the printer. If found, rename them to *.in! or *.pn! or similar. [The usual inf directory is c:\windows\inf Next, restart the system in safe mode and try installing the new drivers. I have hope, feint 'though it be, that this just might work. Let us know. At that point, I shall try bringing other resources to bear. -- Tom MSMVP PS-D "Jmerrill" wrote in message ... Thanks for looking into this perplexing problem Thomas. I
tried all of your suggestions, but still nothing. Do you think if I reinstalled the operating system, that would correct the situation? Reading many posts here, hopeless with my exact problem

Yes, some of us (and not only support folks - I am a developer) read this
newsgroup and do what we can to help out. However, if a problem has too wide a list of possible causes, asking the questions that lead to the solution is a very time-consuming thing. At a minimum, provide exact descriptions of what the problem is ("printing doesn't work" doesn't cut it - does nothing come out of the printer, does it print, does your machine blow up, do you see an error message (if so which - and when precisely)) and what printer model, preferrably also whether you're using inbox drivers or drivers off the manufacturer's CD or website and so on. Even if it looks like you have the same problem like someone else ("spooler doesn't start") it doesn't mean it has the same root cause. The spooler loads all components (print providers, print processors, printer drivers, language monitors, port monitors) into it's own process and executes them - if that component crashes for whatever reason, the spooler crashes. "one small thing like printing" - I like that... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hg" Newsgroups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax Date: Monday, August 04, 2003 6:17 AM S&ubject: Does anybody from MS read this stuff?
