I started receiving this error msg when opening various files. Any thoughts

What type file does this happen with? If always opened by Office, Open
Office, or individual programs, such as Word, Excel, or maybe a graphics
program, that program or suite might need to be reinstalled.

Try a Restore Point dated before you first experienced this problem.

If this is strictly a random occurrence and it happens with executable
too, try these:

Malwarebytes© Corporation
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam/program/mbam-setup.exe

SuperAntispyware
http://www.superantispyware.com/supe...freevspro.html

Sorry - didn't think of doing that!!

CRT commonly stands for "Cathode Ray Tube" - in other words - the monitor.

Your error message is probably caused by some dll file, meant to initialize some type
of monitor, is being called by RunDLL32.exe

This could be happening because of a bogus "association" between this application
extension and "Unknown" file types.

Try looking to see if any "odd" commands show up under the following reg-key[s] :

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Unknown\shell]

....Alternatively, you could download and run "Process Explorer" (sysinternals) and
look at the running entries while the error message is still up on the screen - this
may give you the name of the file that [RunDLL32.exe] is attempting to execute.

You could then do a search in RegEdit for this [.dll] file and delete the entry...

You can download "Process Explorer" by clicking on the link below :
