Default Checking internet connection speed?

I had a very slow computer yesterday but it's back to normal today. I
suspect I had a slow internet connection from the phone company yesterday.
Is there an easy simple way to check this?

TIA

Your isp should have a speed test and a system issue page.
Or you can look up Internet Speed Test on google.

speedtest.net ?

Try it once daily, and make a chart of your rates.

See how the measured upload and download, compare
to your "contract" rates.

It's pretty difficult to look at yesterdays rates,
unless you made the measurement yesterday.

The tests won't let him check how things were yesterday. The ISP's
status (or issue) page _might_ have a recent faults section, but most
such that I've seen just show how things are now (or occasionally, show
a fault that was fixed weeks ago but nobody's updated the page).

The ISP _might_ have some sort of logs for your line, but getting
through to a person who knows what you are talking about is heavy going
(in UK, anyway). There _may_ also be reluctance to give you such
information (I distinguish that from lack of knowledge of the
_existence_ of such information, which is what you'll get first).

(I'm assuming you get your internet connection from "the phone company",
i. e. they're your ISP. If not, you've got even more woes, as the two
will blame each other.)

Unless you've a real need to prove this, I'd give up, as it's working
now (-:

I usually try a couple. The one from my ISP tests my connection to
their "Goes inna" but I also check a few of the other sites to see how
their "Goes outta" is working. Then the next issue is how the site you
are connecting to is doing and for that matter the net altogether.
Ping that remote site a few times and see how many places you are
bouncing off of. At a certain point it is more than I want to worry
about.
